Harmonization Impact
Through the Liberia Standards Technical Harmonization Committees (THCs), the Liberia Standards Authority has endorsed over 200 regional and international standards as Liberian standards. LiSA is actively engaged in ensuring that these common standards facilitate trade, consumer safety, and environmental sustainability. The participation of stakeholders in this process is discussed through the national technical committees, which may nominate representatives.
📌
Mandatory Standards
A standard is published and declared by the Minister responsible for Industry and Trade as mandatory or compulsory after passing all stages for standards development. A compulsory standard prescribes obligatory requirements or essential characteristics needed to ensure the usefulness of a product. Compulsory standard requirements are incorporated into technical regulations.
Whenever a standard covers a product that can affect health, safety, the environment, or has significant impact on the national economy, such a standard is published as a compulsory standard. All other standards apart from the above described are recognised as voluntary standards.
